"From very early in his life we knew Titus was a special dog. His solid easy going personality, innate understanding of the world & stunning physique won him many friends and ribbons through the years. His first weekend out in the show world he received a Puppy Group One at the largest AKC match show in the USA over 90+ other hounds. His gentle demeanor with children and animals have also won him many more fans. He understands the difference between leaving a duckling found in the tall grasses alone that our children have found & when the hunt is truly on in the field for feral hogs.
Titus is a product of the prestigious Spring Valley Rhodesian Ridgebacks headed by Marie Cotton. Her breeding program has consistently produced top winning dogs that have proven to do well in every avenue they pursue. Titus is no exception to this. His own accolades include an UKC Best in Show, AKC Group Placement, multiple UKC Group winning & Reserve Best in Show, UKC top ten the past 4 years, AKC Championship, UKC Grand Championship, AKC Junior Courser, Started Large Game Field Dog, Canine Good Citizen & many more."
A short review of some of Titus’s strengths, by Matthew Valdivia, a trial judge with the Hunting Ridgeback Association.
“Titus is a solid dog. While I wouldn’t characterize my knowledge of Titus as exhaustive, I believe that I very much have my finger on the pulse of his construction, his character and his temperament as I’ve interacted with him on numerous occasions… indoors, outdoors, casual occasions and while working.
It goes without saying that even if two people could agree on what exactly a perfect dog is (and they can’t), the perfect dog has never existed and never will. With that in mind, I won’t enumerate Titus’s faults/weakness as I perceive them, deferring instead to you the use of your own eye and the opportunity to discuss with his owners where they see any shortcomings. Instead I will dwell deliberately and exclusively on what I have observed to be Titus strengths, and they are many.
Structurally Titus is pleasing. His conformation is decidedly masculine, with good substance. He has sufficient angles without being overdone. He has good head planes, and enough neck and loin to have moderate agility. His feet are well formed and tight. He presents a balanced picture of his particular type.
In the field Titus has two stand-out strengths. The first is that he has a fair amount game sense and drive for an otherwise relaxed dog. The second and by far the most impressive is the quality of his nose. Most ridgebacks are warm/hot nosed and can be deliberately trained to use their noses to very good effect. But a serviceable self directed nose can’t be trained… the dog either has it or it doesn’t, and finding one on a Ridgeback can be a challenge. Titus possesses this quality to a degree that I have only observed in a handful of other ridgebacks.
While his conformation and game finding abilities are worth mention, his temperament is what really sets Titus apart. The dog is as close to bomb proof as I have seen in the breed. He’s generally well behaved around other dogs, both intact males and females. He’s protective in the home but not obnoxious. His demeanor around young children goes beyond mere tolerance… he shows a nearly unbelievable amount of deference to children, even children he has never met before.”
Titus is available at stud to well qualified females with approval from Kelley C. Kotch.
